The Power of Hope, Don’t Give Up

The Power of Hope, Don’t Give Up!!

THE POWER OF HOPE

Don’t Give Up
1 Peter 1:3-9

John 11:17-21

What is living hope?

The New Testament of hope is very different from our normal thinking about hope. We say to someone: Will the Bucs win the Super Bowl? And they say: I don’t know; I hope so.

In other words, hope as we think about it, is a desire for some future thing which we are uncertain of attaining.

I think of Proverbs 13:4, 12, 19

4 The soul of a lazy man desires, and has nothing;
But the soul of the diligent shall be made rich.

12 Hope deferred makes the heart sick,
But when the desire comes, it is a tree of life.

19 A desire accomplished is sweet to the soul,
But it is an abomination to fools to depart from evil.

Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but when the desire comes, it is a tree of life.

That is not the way Peter speaks about hope.

When Peter says in 1 Peter 1:13 hope fully in the grace that is coming to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ, he does not mean we should desire it and be uncertain of it.

Hope is not a kite at the mercy of winds, but a sure anchor of the soul, penetrating deep into the invisible, eternal world, the Kingdom of God!!

The Resurrection and the coming of Christ is a matter of complete confidence for all believers.

Hebrews 6:11-12 we desire each one of you to show the same earnestness in realizing the full assurance of hope to the end.

So we can define hope, as full assurance, or strong confidence that God is going to do good to us in the future.

Jesus said I Am the Resurrection and the Life

John 11:21-27

Peter calls it “living hope / living faith

What does that mean?

The opposite of a living hope /Faith, would be a dead hope, Dead Faith

James 2:1-26

Faith without works is dead James 2:26

This faith / Hope, is barren, fruitless, unproductive.

So living faith and, living hope would be fertile, fruitful, productive hope.

Living hope is hope that has power and produces changes in once life.

This is what living means in Hebrews 4:12 where it says,

The word of God is living and effective.

So the Believers hope is living and effective!!

A strong confidence in God which has Resurrection power to produce changes in one’s live.

John 11:21-11

Back to 1 Peter 1:3, 23-25. In verse 3, Peter says, “we are born anew to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.

That is, our hope arises from being born anew and this new birth comes in through Jesus resurrection.

There is a gap between the resurrection of Jesus and your new birth 2000 years later.

1 Peter 1: 23-25 help fill the gap. Peter says, “You have been born anew not of perishable seed but of imperishable through the living and abiding word of God; for all flesh is like grass and all its glory like the flower of grass. The grass withers and the flower falls, but the word of the Lord abides forever.

That word is the good news which was preached to you.” Connecting the resurrection of Jesus and your life 2000 years later is the Word of God, The Gospel, The Good News!!

The gospel is the message, preached in the power of the Holy Spirit, that Jesus Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried and that he rose again on the third day according to the Scriptures (1 Cor. 15:1-4).

2000 year ago the resurrection reaches our heart and begets hope.

The reason Peter says we are born anew to a living hope is because when we cease to place our hope, (our desires and longings) on things that are in the world, and instead place our hopes and desires on God, then a new person has been born anew or Born Again.

The Stone Was Rolled Away

(Matt. 28:6-7)

6 He is not here; for He is risen, as He said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay. 7 And go quickly and tell His disciples that He is risen from the dead, and indeed He is going before you into Galilee; there you will see Him. Behold, I have told you.”

The “Stones” In Your Life
Today, do you have a “stone” in your life that you want God to roll away? If you will let Him, God will roll away the stone of depression, worry, and anguish from your life. He will replace that stone with His peace, hope, faith and assurance.

He said in John 14:27, “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give to you….”

If you are sealed in a tomb of your own making, and you want to be set free, then let God roll the stone away! When the stone whatever is hindering you in your life is rolled away, you will be free and able to receive all that God desires to give you.

John 11:38-44

Take away the Stone verse 39

Loose Him and let him go verse 44

The resurrection Power inside Us.

In Romans 8:11 tells us that the same Spirit that raised Christ from the dead is in us.

We have the power to rise above doube, fear, compromise! We must never let that lay dormant in us; the world is looking for Christians to be the people who allow the living God to have His way. The same Spirit that raised Christ from the dead is in us!

Happy Resurrection Sunday to all!!

The Redeemers Shoes

The Redeemer’s Shoes

The Redeemer’s shoes starts in Genesis and ends at the Cross.

We must gird ourselves with truth. We must go with the shield of faith. We must put on the breastplate of righteousness and the helmet of salvation.

Eph. 6:11.

Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

We must have our feet shod with the gospel of peace. Think of a soldier who put on almost all the armour. Suppose he put all this armour on except the shoes and went out with bare feet. He wouldn’t go far.

Take the gospel of peace. Put on your shoes. You must go or you’re not a soldier. A bare-footed soldier would turn back when he meets the first encounter.

Prepare to go and take the gospel. Your shoes are the “preparation of the gospel of peace.”

I call it……………………..

The Redeemer’s Shoes

All things are now Ready

We must go quickly. Tomorrow may be too late for us to go. We must do more going than we do talking.

James said, to be a doer of the word and not just a hearer only.

Luke 11:28,

Don’t just study God’s Word for the sake of studying.

Be sure to put the Word into practice in your life.

Jesus said in Luke 11:28 “But even more blessed are all who hear the word of God and put it into practice.” (NLT)

We must go to every street, to every creature, every alley in our city.

Last week we talked about feet, and how beautiful are the feet of him who brings good news!

Isaiah 52:7

How beautiful upon the mountains
Are the feet of him who brings good news,
Who proclaims peace,
Who brings glad tidings of good things,
Who proclaims salvation,
Who says to Zion,
Your God reigns!”

We must go to the blind, lame, deaf, and poor person, the Sinner.

Luke 4:18

The Spirit of the LORD is upon Me,
Because He has anointed Me
To preach the gospel to the poor;
He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted,
To proclaim liberty to the captives
And recovery of sight to the blind,
To set at liberty those who are oppressed;

Isa. 56:7

Isa. 55:1-3

There is room for them all.

There is room for you this morning at the cross of redemption.

His house is a house of prayer for all people.

The Cross is the Place of Redemption for all people.

We must see that each individual person gets the invitation.

It is a commandment for us to go, and not only a request.

You are wearing the Redeemer’s Shoes of the Gospel!!

Luke 14:22

And the servant said, Lord, it is done as thou hast commanded, and yet there is room.

Luke 14:23

Our invitation must be more than mere words. “And the Lord said unto the servant, Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled.

Hurry and go after every sinner.

How many guests will be present at the GREAT SUPPER?

You determine that!

Going with The Redeemer’s Shoes of the Gospel

Mark 16:15

And He said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.

This commandment is given by the Lord Jesus Christ after He arose from the dead,

It is the great commission for us all. It is given to each and every Christian.

You may say that He is only giving this command to the twelve, but we must realize that this commandment is given to each individual.

Matthew 28:19-20.

“Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world.”

The main ministry is “going forth.” It is the first GREAT ESSENTIAL. We must go after sinners. We must go into all the world. That includes every street in your city, every crossroads! Every person you come into contact with.

The Redeemer’s Shoes

Is the Gospel of Peace to mankind?

I Count it all Joy

I count it all Joy as I wait patiently for the Lord

James 1:1-27

Genesis 37:1-36

In Genesis 37 we read the story of Joseph and his brothers in their conspiracy to kill Joseph and cast him into a pit in their attempt to hide their evil plot to remove Joseph from their lives. The brothers sold him for 20 pieces of silver to the Ishmaelites who took Joseph off to Egypt.

Let’s understand that the enemy is the one that will try to take us off to Egypt spiritually.

Egypt is symbolic of slavery, Bondage, Sin and the world.

Israel suffered in Egypt Exodus 1: 11-14

Exodus 2: 23 Israel was in a pit.

The Pit

A pit is recession, lack, doubt, sickness, disease, loss of a loved one, loneliness, etc.

The enemy uses the pit in our lives to hold back our blessings and he tries to kill our spirit, steal our joy, and destroy our testimony.

John 10:10 The thief, takes away, to steal kill and to destroy.

Let me start by saying.

There are 3 ways to get into a pit.

When you’re thrown into a pit.

When you slip into a pit

When you jump into a pit

What is a Pit?

Isaiah 42:22 (A Place where you feel Trapped)

Look at Isaiah 40:1-3 again.

The Characteristics of a pit words like slimy, muddy, miry.

Together these words tell us one critical thing about a pit,

You can’t get yourself out.

Spiritually before Christ we all were in a pit or in Egypt.

Romans 3:23

Romans 6:23

Back to Joseph.

This is what we saw with Joseph, as he was thrown into a pit that he himself could not get out.

Look at what happened to another man in the Bible, the Prophet Jeremiah as he was also thrown into a Pit without cause.

Jeremiah 38:6 but as you read on he is delivered from the pit.

Look at Psalms 69:1-3

We have a real enemy of our soul and it’s not flesh and blood.

We must stand, even when and if we find ourselves in a pit.

Ephesians 6:13 we must stand on solid Ground, stand your ground, the Apostle Paul says and after you have done everything, to stand , Stand on God’s Word.(Amen)

Psalms 40:1-3

How do you react when you are thrown into a pit that you have not dug?

How do you respond to those who have thrown you in, who have ill feelings toward you?

Who wants you out of the way?

We see that in the beginning of time with Cain and abel right.

Genesis 4:1-8

Cain had odd with Abel, anger, jealously, whatever the reason Cain said to himself I want Abel out of my Life.

Do you have or have you had this experience in your Life?

How have you reacted, or maybe you’re not doing well at the moment.

We see this with the brothers of Joseph.

Genesis 37:4-5 let’s go there again

Jealousy leads to division and deep animosity. Verse 4

They conspired against him to kill him. Verse 18-20

They said Look at this dreamer; the brothers’ comment is full of sarcasm. Verse 19

They threw him into the pit. Verse 20 vs 22 vs 24

And finally to really get rid of Joseph they sold him for twenty shekels of silver. Verse 25-28

Wow what a Drama in Joseph Life, maybe you have a story like his.

At the age 17 things started to go wrong in Joseph’s life, maybe in your case it was before 17 or in your older years.

I have Good News!!

While Joseph’s brothers were plotting to take him out, at that same time, God dispatched a team of deliverers, the Ishmaelites to come to his rescue (verse 25).

This is great proof of God’s sovereign wisdom and power over our lives.

He is our provider, healer, comforter, protector and redeemer!

He knows just what our pit looks like;

But! He is the one who takes care of us, just as He did with Joseph.

But remember our responsibility is to stand on the Word of God and trust in the Lord.

Then He will take care of the rest.

He has a plan,

Purpose and destiny that he has made for our lives.

The Pit Is Not The End Of The Story

In Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” He has plans for you and His plans are to prosper you! His plans are NOT to harm you! His plans give you hope! And His plans give you a future! So look up out of that pit because your future is up – not down there in the pit!

John 10:10

Jesus’ promises us abundant life, which begins already in the here and now.

Jesus calls his followers you and I, not to a lifeless, miserable existence that squashes human potential, but to a rich, full, joyful life, one overflowing with meaningful activities under the personal favor and blessing of God and in continual fellowship with his people.

To have that you have to count it all joy!!

James 1:2-8

Count it all Joy, the Best is yet to Come!!!

Judging God!

JUDGING GOD !!

judge

JUDGING GOD TO BE FAITHFUL

Hebrews 11:11

By faith Sarah herself also received strength to conceive seed, and she bore a child F51 when she was past the age,

because she judged Him faithful who had promised.

Malachi 3:6

“For I am the Lord, I do not change; Therefore you are not consumed, O sons of Jacob.

James 1:17

Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.

What this means is that God is Faithful:

We don’t have to worry that an alteration in God’s “mood” will result in a change in His personality or His principles.

Gods words are true, we can depend on them, they are true and Amen.

GO AHEAD AND JUDGE GOD!!

Hebrews said that Sarah Judged him faithful who had promised.

Even in her doubt, she laughed at the thought of having a child at her age,

Like Simon, working all Night caught nothing.

Are you an Abraham or a Sarah?????

Read the Story……..

Genesis 17: 10-15  (Abraham) Laugh

Genesis 18:9-15  (Sarah) Laugh

She doubted the promise of God and God called her on it,

We like Sarah, try to say we didn’t doubt, God said no, your laugh was the laugh of UNBELIEF.

Can you her Sarah saying to herself (YA-RIGHT).

With that laugh God was saying you doubted, you did not believe you would have a child.

Remember she did this within herself!!!

Let me ask you this Question?

Is there anything too hard for God?

NO!!!!

So what happened, with Sarah? Faith

So what happened, to Abraham? Faith

It happened through Faith.

Hebrews11:11

Sarah weighed all the evidence about the character of God and stood as the JURY as examining all the facts about God, and her VERDICT was GOD IS FAITHFUL.

We do the same as we Read the Word of God, we see the Works of God, as we see the Life of Jesus and the Finished work on the Cross, it is Finished Jesus said.

Is the Jury still out about God?

Its your Call!!

God keeps his Promises!!

Lets Judge God as Faithful And Receive Your Miracle, as God has been faithful to Sarah in her Barren Age, and Gave child or promise to her and Abraham, as God has been Faithful to Simon as he Got his Boat out, as he Launch out into the deep, to get the Catch of the Day, God was Judged to be Faithful!!

Let me ask you this Question?

Will you Judge God to be faithful in your Life, even when things don’t seem to be going your way or going  your way at the present time, or when you have not received, Like Sarah and Abraham, or Simon Peter who worked all night and had caught nothing at the Time?

God was and is faithful, to them and others, and God is Faithful to you!!

Release the River…..Believers Grace
